Pretzel Crust

I love a pretzel crust on chicken. What usually works for chicken can also work on fish. So making a pretzel crust as a batter for this tilapia dish was a great idea I felt. Plus what goes well with a pretzel crust? A honey mustard sauce!

Pan Fried Tilapia

I wanted this tilapia recipe to be easy, so instead of deep frying, I did this as a pan fried tilapia. Plus I think by pan frying the fish, the flavor would be better since the tilapia has the pretzel crust.

Honey Mustard Sauce

This pan fried tilapia needed a finishing sauce. Tartar sauce would be ok, but this tilapia recipe has a pretzel crust. A honey mustard sauce would be the best sauce to have with this easy tilapia recipe. The end result was an amazing fish dinner!

Pretzel Battered Tilapia With Honey Mustard is a pan fried tilapia. This easy tilapia recipe is wonderful if you need fish recipes for dinner! You'll love the pretzel crust and honey mustard sauce on this dish dinner.

Ingredients

  • 6 fl. oz. Canola Oil
  • 2/3 cup Tempura Mix
  • 4 (3oz. each) Tilapia Fillets
  • Dijon Honey Mustard Dressing
  • 1 tablespoon Old Bay Seasoning
  • 2 tablespoons. Pretzel Breading

Instructions

    1. Pat tilapia dry.
    2. Season all over with the Old Bay Seasoning.
    3. Add canola oil to a medium non-stick pan and place over medium heat. Heat oil, 5 minutes.
    4. While oil heats, combine tempura mix, ¼ cup water, and a pinch of salt and pepper in a mixing bowl.
    5. Stir until a thin batter forms, like pancake batter. If too thick, add additional water, 1 Tbsp. at a time, until desired consistency is reached.
    6. Working in batches, dip tilapia in batter, coating completely.
    7. Place on a plate and top with pretzel breading on one side, pressing gently to adhere.
    8. Fry 2 at a time, but carefully add tilapia to hot oil and fry until golden all over and fish reaches a minimum internal temperature of 145 degrees, 3-4 minutes per side.
    9. Gently transfer fish to towel-lined plate. Blot off the grease.
    10. Place the tilapia on plates and drizzle with Dijon honey mustard dressing. Serve it up and ENJOY!

Notes

Test oil temperature by adding a pinch of tempura batter to it. It should sizzle gently. If it browns immediately, turn heat down and let oil cool. If it doesn't brown, increase heat.
