Post Makeover

This Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese debut here on Seduction in the Kitchen on 1/16/2014. It is my 3rd most looked at recipe on here. I think it is because this version of Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese doesn’t involve adding cream cheese to make it. Other Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese uses cream cheese.

Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese is the Ultimate comfort food, macaroni, and cheese, made in a crock pot. A recipe from Seduction in the Kitchen.

This recipe was one of the first recipes that I stopped using an iPhone with and went with a regular digital camera. I had just got the eBook on food photography. So I was applying the lessons I learned.

My styling back then was the rose. I used that rose in every photo from that pain out. Why? I liked it. I wanted people to know that was my photo, I guess it would be my signature was what I was thinking back then.

I was happy with how that photo came out. I remember I posted in a recipe group on Facebook the link to this Crock Pot Macaroni and Cheese and some woman replied, “That’s a fake photo, This is Kraft Macaroni and Cheese.” I can’t remember her exact wording but it was something like that, she went on to say how Velveeta shells were the best.

That was my first taste of comments that make you laugh. The woman never even read my post. Had she just went to the post, she would have seen I use Velveeta shreds to make this cheesy dish.

Like Chicken Watermelon Salad with Casa Noble Tequila Lime VinaigretteEasy Brownies, and  Crock Pot Cheesy Bacon Potatoes, I decided this recipe needed a makeover. This recipe is favorite of mine, the basis is actually my mother’s recipe. It is she who uses the secret ingredient, cream of celery soup.

When I told her originally on the phone that I am making her mac n cheese, only I am doing it in the slow cooker, she makes on the stove.  She said to me make sure you have it very juicy, you do not want to be dry. So I made a small adjustment to it Instead of using all milk, I added the addition of heavy cream to it. The heavy cream would help in keeping is gooey. It turned out to be a good choice to do.

There is something special about that feeling of comfort. That is maybe why we always have a special place for certain foods and that is why we call it comfort foods. A helping of a special dish, it fills you up with not only good taste but memories as well.

Macaroni and Cheese is one of those comfort foods many of us hold dear. For most, it is a great family dish that is served. It is filling, the gooey cheesy macaroni, it made with love and taste so good.

Yes, you can make a box kind, but there is nothing like a good homemade mac and cheese. Plus the one you make for your family sometimes is a recipe handed down to you from your mother. For most, it is a great family dish that is served.

Question: If it only takes about 30 minutes or so to bake the Mac & Cheese with breadcrumbs, Panko, or onion rings on top, in the oven, why would you want to take 3 hours to cook it in a crock pot? I like mine with a crispy top on it. Nothing wrong with your idea, but I’ve never seen it done that way before. (I put my comment down under Anonymous since I couldn’t find another that would fit.) Good luck with your search for the right man.

Very good questions! Crock pots cook at a slower rate then an oven, (it lower temp plus it also an even temp as well that is why) so why you will see recipes that call for say an 1 hour in the oven but you see a simular recipe say 4 hours on low in a crock pot. It because the lower/slower rate it cooks. Many crock pot lovers like the lower slower and an even cooking cooking temp because it can cook all day while at work, they do not have to worry. Normal conversion for an oven times too crock pot times is this:

OVEN OR STOVETOP COOKING TIME LOW CROCKPOT TIME HIGH CROCKPOT TIME
    15 TO 30 MINUTES 4 TO 6 HOURS 1-1/2 TO 2-1/2 HOURS
    35 TO 45 MINUTES 6 TO 8 HOURS 3 TO 4 HOURS
    50 MINUTES TO 3 HOURS 8 TO 16 HOURS 4 TO 6 HOURS

As this was cooking it was soupy, the cheese literally was baking into the macaroni and it took a good 3 hours to get to what I like macaroni to be like, and if you look at my chart above for oven to crock pot conversions, it was right on mark. It all due to that low/ slow/ even cooking in the crock pot.

    I hope that helps!
    Thanks
    Dee

Hi Amy! Actually no you do not have to use unsalted butter, I choose unsalted only because condense soup tends to have lots sodium, so I just didnt want to add to it. The only time it really reccommended to use unsalted butter is actually in Pastries, I learned that from an old Julia Child episode I saw. Unsalted butter gives a more flakier to pastries 🙂

Sorry to say but it isn´t that easy always.I am not that busy as some women may think. In fact, I have some free time occassionally, but do women know that? Get the correct picture of others too.You may have had that in this situation, in other situations you may need an adjustment on the picture of men.

how much milk and cream goes in the recipe

It is 1 can of each, meaning when you open the soup up and dump it in the crock pot you, fill that can back up with milk, pour it in, then fill the can back up with the cream. Just like if you were making the soup to just eat it 🙂

It’s confusing because most cans of soup are not 8 ounces. So when you say that it takes 1 cup and then you go back and say 1 can in the directions, it’s confusing.

The cream of celery soup sounds very interesting. Bet it really gives it a nice subtle change from the variety I usually do in the crock pot. LOVE using the crock pot! Nice to meet you through The Authentic Blogger. If you like shrimp we have some recipes on our site!

Hi Dee, I saw this recipe over on Carlee’s blog and had to check it out. Slow cooker meals are my favourite but I would never have thought to make macaroni cheese in one. I’m going to have a go although I won’t be able to follow your recipe as tinned soup isn’t a thing here, so I’m thinking a thick white sauce made with chicken stock? I will have a think.

    xx
