Mushroom Appetizers

A long time ago, I was at a work party in a country club. They served these mushroom appetizers called mushroom purses. What I remember about these mushroom appetizers was the mushrooms were in a cheese wrapped up in phyllo, tied with green onion. Those mushroom appetizers were fantastic!

Dinner Party Appetizers

I have been wanting to make dinner party appetizers for awhile. Those mushroom purses have been in the back of my mind. I will admit, I hate working with phyllo.

Phyllo for dinner party appetizers is just a pain to work with.  Phyllo is so thin and delicate and I just don’t have patience with it.

Wonton Appetizers

Making wonton appetizers for this mushroom recipe would be easy. Who doesn’t like an easy appetizer recipe? Especially when you are looking for easy finger food ideas. I decided a wonton wrapper would work much better than phyllo for this finger food recipe.

Oh my goodness, these sound amazing! My family had a wonton party a couple of years ago… everyone brought a filling and we had packages after packages of wrappers. Too bad none of us thought to make a filling like this. I demand a redo!!

So simple yet so elegant. We served a version of this at our wedding and everyone still talks about it. This would be a great surprise for an anniversary dinner with some champagne.

Thank you! It is disappointing, It a real bad habit people have here in Cleveland. When in Pittsburgh, they didnt do as bad as they do here.

Can I freeze these for a couple of weeks? If so what method should I use and how should a thaw and finish off?

    • Deanna Samaan
      August 16, 2017

If you were to freeze them, I would partially bake them for 1/2 the time/ Make sure they are double wrapped in the plastic wrap You don’t want freezer burn. Then when it is time to make, take out the freezer and let thaw out in the fridge then finish baking them.
