Simple Goulash Recipe
I love a simple goulash recipe. There are many takes on goulash, there is the traditional Hungarian version and then there is the American goulash. The truth is the American goulash is a simple goulash recipe for a reason. It basically noodles and beef were thrown into a pot.
Beef Goulash Recipe
Ok maybe that is a bit harsh, but I have seen a beef goulash recipe where it is basically beef macaroni. A traditional beef goulash recipe has more flavor then noodles, beef and tomato sauce. This marsala recipe is beef and noodles, but it has flavor. So you can say this is a new version of the American beef goulash.
Marsala Recipe
How did this marsala recipe come about? I had received a Home Chef kit for marsala meatballs. There was a flaw in the recipe. The meatballs had no binder and they fell apart in the slow cooker. When I served it, my friend said this marsala recipe looks more like a goulash then meatballs.
The flavor of this slow cooker marsala recipe was good, but it needed tweaking. So I took that marsala meatball recipe and turned it into a wonderful goulash recipe instead.
Marsala Wine Substitute
Anytime I come up with a recipe that has wine, I am asked if you can substitute anything for it. A good marsala wine substitute I know of is this:
- 1/4 cup of white grape juice
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons of sherry vinegar
You could also substitute white wine for the masala wine. Whatever you do, do not omit the masala wine. The wine is what gives this dish the wonderful flavor. The alcohol burns off during cooking, so don’t need to worry about the alcohol content in the dish.
