I love margaritas. I love all flavors of that margarita cocktail. I decided I wanted to create an orange margarita.
An orange margarita sounds nice but blood orange cocktail sounds better. Blood Oranges have this pretty wine color to them and they make the best orange margarita.
Wait! doesn’t isn’t margaritas already a citrus margarita? Yes but an orange margarita recipe is more orange than lemon. When you want to make a citrus margarita, depending on what flavor you want to bring out, you use more of that citrus.
Blood Orange Cocktail
I saw a segment years ago on a cooking show where they were using a blood orange in a blood orange cocktail. I thought the wine color of the blood orange was just beautiful. That image of the blood orange cocktail ended up being stuck in the back of my head after that.
My grocery store got in a shipment of blood oranges. I finally got to try this beautiful wine colored piece of citrus. Let’s say it was love at first taste of a blood orange juice.
Blood Orange Drinks
This will be my second recipe to feature blood oranges, the first was the Orange Snowball Cookies. I saw a blood orange drinks at the store. Bolthouse Farms now has a blood orange juice.
Blood Orange Margarita
I quickly thought that blood orange drink would be amazing for a Blood Orange Margarita. I was right that juice just really makes this Blood Orange Margarita explode with flavor. Plus it the perfect balance to make an orange margarita.
Blood Orange Margarita gives a new citrus taste to the classic margarita. The deep wine color of the blood orange makes this margarita cocktail pretty and also so very yummy. Perfect for a winter celebration.
- 3 ounces Bolthouse Farms Blood Orange Juice
- 1/2 ounce Lime Juice
- 2 ounces Tequila
- 1 ounce Triple Sec
- Combine all ingredients into an ice filled cocktail shaker and shake for 15 seconds.
- Strain the cocktail into the glass and ENJOY!
To salt the rim of the glass: Rub the rim of the glass with an edge of a blood orange slice. Swirl the rim through a small pile of margarita salt.
