There is a difference between chess pie and cream sugar pie. A chess pie recipe calls for a small amount of cornmeal as well as vinegar to balance its sweetness. Cream sugar pie is a custard pie with one difference than most custard pie recipes.

Sugar pie has no eggs at all in the pie recipe. That is right! If you have an egg allergy, this is a great egg free recipe!

What is vanilla sugar? Vanilla sugar is sugar that has been infused with a vanilla bean. The sugar has a wonderful vanilla scent and also a great taste.

Vanilla Sugar Pie with Cinnamon Whipped Cream

Total Time 1 hour 10 minutes


Vanilla Sugar Pie

  • 3/4 cup  vanilla sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon  salt
  • 2 cups half-and-half cream
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream
  • 1/4 cup  brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • Unbaked pie shell

Cinnamon Whipped Cream

  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon sugar


  1. In sauce pan combine vanilla sugar, salt, half-and-half and whipping cream.
  2. Bring to a boil.
  3. In a bowl combine the brown sugar and cornstarch.
  4. Gradually whisk in the brown sugar mixture into the cream mixture.
  5. Add butter
  6. Cook over medium heat, whisk constantly, 5 minutes or until thick.
  7. Simmer for 1 minute and stir in the vanilla.
  8. Pour into uncooked pie shell and sprinkle a little the vanilla sugar on the top
  9. Bake at 375°F for 45 minutes.
  10. Let it cool overnight in the fridge.

Cinnamon Whipped Cream

  1. In a bowl, add the cream, cinnamon, and sugar.
  2. Whip everything together till you get hard peaks.
  3. Slice up the pie and place a dollop of the whipped cream on each slice and ENJOY!
