Now that I am back to work, I admit I am tired, so that is why I haven’t been doing daily posts, but I am trying. I was told in 2 weeks my hours are changing because we hired someone new so instead of working 830-530pm I will be working 730-430pm. So that will be so good. Just to get home earlier I can not wait. I will say being back at work, I realized a few things, most have to do with basically whatever happened to common courtesy and well I guess manners?

I say this, I know there is an age difference between me and most of my coworkers they are all 25, 36 and 27 years old. I am going to be 38. It is weird I came back, I didn’t get a welcome back from them. While I was gone we got lockers installed, I am the reason those lockers got installed, I had my purse stolen at work. I fought to get us lockers. I said I had nowhere safe to put my purse. Common courtesy would have been to give me the first or second locker, no they gave me the last one on the bottom. They took the first lockers on top. When I said something I was told, “well you were off” What was bad, a colleague, who high up comes in to see me, to welcome me back, one the first things he said was, when he saw our lockers, “wait why is Shorty’s locker the first locker, shouldn’t she be on the bottom since she only 4 foot tall? Wait why is your locker last? Didn’t you get these lockers for these girls?” That is bad when someone who hardly is in the lab noticed that.

Basically nothing has changed since I was off, they always acted like that, I got my hair cut and was drastic cut, I had very long hair and I had cut to my chin. Instead of saying I like your hair I got, “Good luck trying to grow that out” One was getting married, we heard about this wedding for months, she only invited a few of us to her wedding, no she didn’t invite me. Used to be the rule of thumb, you invited all your co workers or you invited none. I guess it isn’t like that anymore. Maybe I am too old fashion, maybe I was raised different. I don’t treat them like how they treat me. What is funny we have a bad reputation at my lab because of them. I been told this by people in other health centers, they do not know how I can work there, in fact I been begged to go back to floating they heard stories how bad these girls are.

There is only 10 years between us in age, but wow what a difference it is in how I was raised to do things and how they are raised to do things. What happened? Why did the common courtesy go out the window? Funny, I got told by a doctor in the building how they missed me, I always show them respect and they know I know what I am talking about. In the 2 months I was gone, they could tell that my co workers did not know as much as I know and that the “I do not care” attitude was visible. It made me realize they are only there for a paycheck, I am there because it my job. Again it goes back to how I was raised, no matter the job, it your job, you should do it with pride and respect. They don’t see it as that, it just a paycheck. I miss common courtesy, I wish it would come back.

Despite all that, it is good to out the apartment and working again. Sometimes we need to celebrate a simple thing like that. What is a better way to celebrate than with a drink. When I was a teenager, I worked at a grocery store and they had this coffee bar that made Italian sodas. When we were having that heat wave, I just wanted something refreshing. I actually was craving this drink I would get when I was a teenager. I didn’t have seltzer water or flavoring.

I saw the SodaStream in a closet, I was given it awhile ago when I would do reviews on The Lovely Pink Diva. wait that makes water bubbly. I had a cherry Kool-aid concentrate for it. I can do this let’s see if this will make my Italian cream soda. So I did, I made it and turned out very refreshing and better than I remembered.

Italian Cream Soda with SodaStream

A refreshing drink recipe using a sodasteam machine, from Seduction in the Kitchen

Ingredients

  • Carbonated water
  • 1 1/2 ounces Kool-Aid Cherry flavored SodaStream concentrate
  • 1/2 ounce of half and half

Instructions

  1. First you want to carbonate your water, just fill the bottle up to the line for the Sodastream, screw it in and press the button 3 times to carbonate the water. Now if you do not have a Sodastream, get club or Seltzer water
  2. Next, in an 8oz glass, add ice and the carbonated water.
  3. Next you add the Kool-aid concentrate, I believe soda stream makes a grape and a fruit punch one, you can use those if you have them. basically your doing to pour the concentrate into the glass. In bar terms it is referred to as “float it, meaning you will not be stirring, so just pour it in. Yes, if don’t have a soda stream just a flavoring like Toni’s.
  4. Then your going to “float” the half and half on top. You will see it swirl about in the glass. I admit it is neat to see it swirl. Again do not mix!
  5. Finally, just enjoy this refreshing drink!
